Well, that’s October over and done with and we are careening through November at a rate of knots - Christmas will be upon us anytime soon and as usual, there is so much to be done! Our Hallowe’en Dinner Dance went really well. In fact, it nearly wasn’t a dance as everyone seemed to be having such a good time over dinner we practically had to shoo them into the ballroom to make the most of the live music. Some lucky people who work at the hotel are taking off to the Maldives for some R & R - envious I may be, but the lady in question well deserves the break. May she have a fabulous time. Meanwhile back at the ranch, work continues apace as we hunker down and get ready for the festivities ahead. Stay tuned for a more detailed report once we have caught our breath!

To help us get over a somewhat miserable summer weather-wise, we’re planning an Autumn Ball themed around Hallowe’en and Guy Fawkes. Most appropriate I think considering we are well within sight of Pendle Hill, infamous for its 16th Century witch trials and reputedly haunted! The dress code for the event is strictly Ball gowns not broom sticks! We aim to ensure the event will be great fun, with the hotel being decked out in spooky themes, topped off with a spectacular firework display. Pumpkins and straw bales have already been ordered and Michael, the food and beverage manager, is very keen to get the staff dressed up and is even trying to convince me - fat chance!
I can’t quite believe how fast time flies but already we are well into planning for Christmas, kicking off with our Turkey and Tinsel breaks that kick off in November. The chefs are busy preparing Christmas puds, ordering of crackers are decorations is well in hand and I just can’t believe it’s in just 2 months time! In fact, I can’t even believe I’m talking about it already. Every year it seems to start earlier and earlier – no wonder it seems like time flies by. So I’ll stop for now and hope you stay tuned for my next chapter!
Many of our guests have given very positive feedback about the transformation our bedrooms, lobby area, ballroom have undergone and now the restaurant, with its controversial chandelier. We now have 10 beautiful new chandeliers and the cleaning is proving to be a great challenge. Imported from Venice and personally selected by Ann Richardson, they are very valuable and understandably this makes the staff nervous when cleaning them.

The restaurant chandelier, the subject of endless debate, is a replica of a very early Venetian chandelier. Striking though it is, I do feel it is very much a marmite thing; you either love it or hate it!
My personal favourites are the 2 which hang in the Lancaster room along with a very imposing portrait taken from Ann Richardson’s Torquay home.
